We are now in the 5th week of this project and it's time to begin planning our final pieces! So far, I think I want to continue focusing on stereotypes and how people are judged on their appearance and fashion sense/style. I recently found a game from when I was little which is made up of 30 cards. These cards have images on of either a head, a torso or a pair of legs and shoes. The idea of the game was to put the cards into groups of 3 by choosing one from each of these body parts to create a person. The cards each made up a job, e.g. a fireman, a doctor, a ballerina, a postman.
This gave me the idea to make a flip book with three changeable parts, each featuring a different kind of person or stereotype instead of a job. For example one could be a punk, one could dress very feminine, one could be gothic etc. This way I am collating my previous research of stereotypes into an interactive book which allows the reader to create a person with a combination of identities.
I also want to have my blog on a monitor beside the book for the show so that my whole project is interactive and viewers will be able to read through how I have reached this final outcome.
Chuck Close
Chuck Close's latest creation is a children’s book called Face Book which contains a collection of his self-portraits. The images are representative of the many different styles he’s utilized over the years, from watercolor to oil to stamp pads and thumbprints. The pages of self-portraits are split into three even horizontal strips so that readers can flip sections and mix and match the different portraits.
This links to my idea of a flip book and I like the way each section is different in terms of the medium he has used to draw with. This gave me the idea of combining fashion illustration and fashion photography to mix and match so that some sections are photos and others are drawings which then link together.
Tuesday 25th March
Today I started taking photographs for my mix and match book. I planned to create 7 different looks: bohemian, punk, vintage, gothic, preppy, sporty and retro. I think these are the most common stereotypes we see in terms of clothing and what people wear and I plan to look into the message or identity each one conveys.
BOHEMIAN:
In modern usage, the term 'Bohemian' is applied to people who live unconventional, usually artistic, lives. The original "Bohemians" were travellers or refugees from central Europe (hence, the French bohémien, for "gypsy").
Reflecting on the fashion style of 'boho-chic' in the early years of the 21st century, the Sunday Times thought it ironic that fashionable girls wore ruffly floral skirts in the hope of looking bohemian, nomadic, and spirited, whereas gypsy girls themselves are sexy and delightful precisely because they do not care for fashion. By contrast, in the late 19th century and first half of the 20th, aspects of Bohemian fashion reflected the lifestyle itself.

Thursday 3rd April
I have now completed 4 photoshoots for my book. I now need to go through and edit them and then finally chose the best one which I think is best for the book. I also need to consider which ones will fit together well.
I need to decide how I want to make my book; I could buy an A2 sketchbook and print the photos to that size but they may look quite scruffy if they are just stuck in. Alternatively I could use a website to create a photo book where I can upload my images with backgrounds and the company will send me the finished product. However, this is more expensive and a bit lazy.
I have decided to have backgrounds behind my photographs which reflect the style of clothing they are wearing, for example: the punk photograph will be accompanied by a bright, pop-art background and the bohemian photograph will be accompanied by a floral, natural coloured background. This way the book is more interesting and when the photographs are mixed the different colours and patterns will emphasise the whole concept of the book.
Wednesday 9th April
Over the last two days I have managed to complete all 6 of the photoshoots for my book. I made backgrounds for each photograph which relate to the style of the clothing or stereotype.

Monday 14th April
I have edited sections of each photos together to show my concept in a different way to the mix-and-match book.
Thursday 17th April
I have been undecided on what to put on the left hand side of my book as it would look bare if I just had the photographs on the right side and nothing else. I am considering either using typography or illustration to make it more interesting. The typography would be words to explain an aspect of each section of the photos, for example: the legs of the gothic photograph would have 'fetish' or 'Victorian' written on the left hand side of it in a font which links to the gothic theme, and so on.
